Frontier Bank of Texas's headquarters is in Elgin, TX, and started in 2007, when five area leaders realized the need for a local, independent bank in Bastrop County. Program Objectives (Goals)

Frontier Bank of Texas has made it a priority to invest in students who have an interest in a future banking career. As a local community bank, we have the unique ability to provide training in multiple bank departments. Our hope is that, through this internship, students will be better prepared to seek specific careers within the banking industry upon entry into the workforce.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives:

Frontier Bank of Texas intern will experience day-to-day banking operations within a finance department. They will be shown how it performs and given an opportunity to participate various tasks and special projects. The main objective of this program is to provide the intern with a broad overview of a functional area within the community banking model, showcase how that team serves the bank, and offer opportunities to shadow other related departments.

Scope and Deliverables:

Depending on the functional area selected, the intern will support the Frontier Bank of Texas through projects and activities such as:

  • Learn fundamentals and commercial banking basics from a financial perspective.
  • Analyze competitor strategies to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participating in training or relevant meetings.
  • Finance and Community Special Projects.
  • Assisting with internship program materials.
  • Any other deliverables as may be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Learn fundamentals and commercial banking basics from a financial perspective
  • Follow current events to stay informed about critical issues relevant to the banking industry, customers, and the market
  • Research and analyze bank-related activities
  • Exhibit professionalism
  • Attend all meetings when requested and submit all work in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate continuous learning and remain coachable through each learning experience
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Desired Candidate Qualifications:

  • Students should be currently enrolled at Southwestern University, in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, or related field.
  • Knowledge of basic financial modeling (LTA, LDR, ROA, etc.)
  • A passion for learning and driving business outcomes through financial modeling,
  • analysis and business insights.
  • Located in or near the Austin, TX area.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong quantitative skills.
  • Learn how to develop financial models to support business decisions by collaborating with various stakeholders.
  • Learns month-end close activities for finance teams, accruals, variance analysis and financial statement preparation.
  • Participate in financial statements and budget reviews.
  • Learning and using new technologies and financial modeling as needed.
  • Participate in meetings and project planning sessions.
  • Gaining exposure to and learning about different aspects of financial planning.
  • Knowledge and experience with operating a computer, calculator, and other general office equipment.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to take initiative.
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast paced, changing environment and maintain a commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ability to follow policies, procedures and written instructions, as well as verbal instructions or directions from his/her supervisor.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to get along well with coworkers and to work as part of Frontier Bank of Texas, working towards the Bank’s goals set forth by its’ Board of Directors.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
      • Use professional and clear verbal communication skills.
      • High quality writing skills, using accurate word usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation in all written correspondence.
      • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
      • Use professional phone etiquette, including tone and volume of voice.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to take initiative.
  • Have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Preference given to rising college juniors and seniors with an interest to work in the banking industry, especially within the Texas community banking.
